On December 3rd 2008, Deborah Simpson was sworn in as a member of the Maine State Senate. She represents Senate District 15, consisting of the communities of Auburn, Durham, New Gloucester and Poland. She had previously served four terms in the Maine House of Representatives.

Senator Simpson serves as Chair of the State and Local Government Committee, and is a member of the Natural Resources Committee and the Joint Select Committee on Maine’s Energy Future. During her legislative service the House, Senator Simpson served as Chair of the Judiciary Committee and was a member of the Taxation Committee. She has been a tireless advocate for consumer protection and privacy, and for the most vulnerable members of society, especially children. She has passed several bills to assist in the collection of child support, which is a key factor in preventing children from living in poverty.

In addition to her work in the Legislature, Senator Simpson serves on the Maine Child Care Advisory Council and on the board of Tri-County Mental Health Services. She resides in Auburn with her partner, Manuel Pilar. Her son Isaiah is a freshman at the University of Vermont in Burlington in the College of Engineering and Mathematical Sciences.
